They look so annoyed with all this heat. Just laying around outside the igloo all sprawled out. I feel bad.
I put a fan by their cage and a frozen water bottle inside.
I have air condition in my bedroom, and i bring them in there occasionally.
What else can I do to keep my babies comfortable? How can I help my rats cool off in this hot weather?
A shallow dish with a wide diameter that they would not be able to tip over filled with cold water would help if they feel like swimming or taking a bath. If they look hesitant to enter I've heard putting a few little leaves of lettuce in or something else they can eat that floats will spark their curiosity. Also you can give them ice cubes with a grape frozen inside in a little dish for them to experiment with/lick/lay on. a hammock hung on a corner can be easily made with a triangle of fabric and about three paper clips (one on each corner) but it takes a while to figure out how to make a hammock that is shaped so that it doesnt just dump them out. A hammock might be cooler for them to lay on than the ground. How can I help my rats cool off in this hot weather?
Rats can swim give them a cool bath, not too cold though. Rats are from the dessert so heat isn't very bad for them, make sure they have water, andnever give your rodents cold water as it can lower their body temperature and make them very sick.
well, if you feel like taking time to do it, a paint dish filled with shallow cool water, put some smooth stones in it, and some frozen peas, add rats and you have yourself a ratty wading pool! :)
