How do I get rid of rats in our home?

It's been a month or two since a rat was found in my bedroom. And now, the rat has come back. I just found it inside the closet hiding... waaaa!! (It wasn't the clothes closet) The rat was found in that very corner before.

Yes yes I know keep the house clean ( which it already is ) .. Any tips on how to get rid of it? We've already planted those poison feeds for the rats however, it seems untouched. Man, the rats in our house are smart!!How do I get rid of rats in our home?
We had rats, up to about 8 by the time we were done. We tried getting rid of food in the house, trapping them with rat traps, inviting neighbor's cats over, etc. Ultimately, the answer of killing them was just not successful. Because we were still feeding them in the process of trapping them. (And let me tell you, these rodents are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. And they can survive on a lot more than just food..)

Spoke to a friend about it and he said get this:

Black %26amp; Decker EX420-2P Ultrasonic Pest Repeller

The brand and model is a reference, but the technology is the key. Beware getting these if you happen to have pets. Otherwise, this has been the solution of our dreams! Within days of putting one in our kitchen, and one aimed underneath our house (we have raised floors), we have had NO problems. How do I get rid of rats in our home?
It is a sound blaster. But of annoying noise to animals. Not long ago, Barry Manilow music was blasted late at night in bad neighborhoods. In the process, it drove the negative elements away and improved the neighborhoods. In the same way, think of this device as blasting BM to rats.

Ive heard of those high frequency emitters that you plug in the wall, but I'm not sure of their effectiveness. The NYC rats are scary, maybe someone from there will hear your question and help you out.
rodents, like any other animal has needs Food, Water, Shelter. Rats, are transient within an area that can provide it's needs. It may sleep at your house, eat at your neighbors, and drink somewhere else. The point is, extermination is a neighborhood task.
Get the traps that you put a piece of cheese on. I use those traps and put a piece of bread w\ peanut butter spread on top. It works everytime. You can also put a piece of raw bacon on there. Good Luck!
