I already bought 3 kinds of rat poisons, and yet I haven't found a dead rat yet.How can I get rid of the rats in my ceiling?
The first thing that you need to do is find out where the rats are getting in at. Check around the outside of your home, looking for any holes that are the size of a quarter or larger. When you find holes like these, stuff them with steel wool and foam them in place with expandable foam.





Do this during the day since rats are nocturnal. If you still have rats inside the attic once you have sealed up all the access points, then you should try snap traps. Set the snap traps up along the edges where the rats are walking. I would personally use peanut butter for the bait. Rats love peanut butter.





Stay away from rat bait! The problem with rat bait is that you can not control where the rat will die. It could die in the walls or between floor levels and then the smell of the body would be a terrible thing to deal with.

Rats enter your home through the attic vents on the side of your house as well as by crawling up on the water pipes. You need to spread out more rat poison, the type that dehydrates them. Otherwise a dead rat will decay and stink up your house. Take a look outside of your home and check for any openings where pipes lead into your house. Take some 000 grade steel wool and poke that into the holes that the pipes are leading in, and then spray insulation foam over the steel wool. The rats will not chew through this. Also make sure to apply this same treatment to the pipes under the sinks in your kitchen and bathrooms. Go up into your attic and get rid of all the empty boxes, or paper goods that you no longer use. Set about a half dozen traps along with additional bait. You will need to check the attic for dead rats at least twice a week. If the problem does not clear up, you will need to seek the help from a professional exterminator. Good luck.
Gosh, I wish you could add some detail. Do you live in a city, suburb or country? Gotta be careful with some rat poisons if you have other pets, 'cause the rodent can eat it and leave some behind somewhere. If you live in a very natural environment like I do, then nature takes care of the creature. I get about 1 rat a year in my old cottage, but that is because I left something to eat on the back porch. The rat happens to be part of a great working food chain here and is another reason why I don't like the idea of poisons. If you live in the city, cats work wonders. They'll even bring you the ';prize'; when all is said and done. And if you were a redneck you'd shoot the darn thing. You sound like you might need an exterminator.
You could use this as an excuse to get a large cat.


Or a ferret would kill a rat, I am not kidding.


Or a Rat Terrier, but I dont know if you want a little dog running around the attic.





Or you could put cherry Alkaseltzer tablets up where the rats could get to it. Because rats can't burp, It could be messy so where ever the rats died you would have to find and dispose of their little corpses.
Get a snake, and put it up there... You can try finding one of those high-frequency noise repellents, which will just make them scatter- no dead critters to smell up your home. Put about a dozen snaptraps along the walls, cuz rodents prefer to move along the perimeter of a space and not thru the middle of it. And load them suckers with canned tuna. They'll smell that stuff a mile away and fight to be the first to try it! You'll hear them snap, too, and it'll be easier to remove the bodies...

Rat poison is not an ideal solution, pal. Trust me. They're not that stupid. This is a new generation of mutated mouse. For me, I wouldnt want to use poison. You might get your pets eating that. True. Things happens. To the point, Ceiling or attic? The dont hang around upside down on the ceiling.Lols. And you should use mouse traps or a special glue if they're a swarm. Call an exterminator. For a very reasonable fee they will set bait traps outside the home to prevent more rats from coming in once they get rid of the others. The money is well worth it. I had an office with over 3000 sq. ft. that was built in 1890 and it worked for me.
