Any special tricks for getting rid of RATS?

My mom said to stuff aluminum foil in one of the holes but I want this sucker GONE. My landlord put in some glue traps too......any other ideas?Any special tricks for getting rid of RATS?
Rats are very resourcefull and always provide themselves with a ';safety'; entrance/exit. If you plug the holes, and they are inside of a building, they will just ';CHEW'; a new way in/out. They are social rodents and if they like their ';digs';, will make every effort to stay there.

Poisons work by making the animal extremely thirsty after eating the bait. It will attract more if they are in the area. The poison acts quickly once the animal drinks. If they don't have a water source handy (pet water dish, glasses or cups in sink with water in them, etc.) they will have to go outside to drink.

Pets, especially cats, don't eat a dead animal they didn't kill themselves, and are acute to something not acting right and have a keen sense of smell, in MOST cases will leave the rat alone.

A spring-loaded RAT TRAP works very well. It needs to be placed in one of their 'regular route' runways, in a dark or hidden location if possible. They are most active after dark.

Peanut butter is irresistible-they can't pass it up. Once, you set your traps-check them daily if you don't hear them snap or are gone. Remove a caught rat promptly, wrap in paper, put in a plastic bag and into the garbage.

Most important!!! YOU MUST clean the trap with a bleach and water solution and allow to dry before re-setting. This will eliminate the ';dead animal'; smell or dried blood that they would detect and others would avoid the trap. They can smell this even over the BEST peanut butter.

Stay vigilate-rats mate quickly and are seldom alone. Keep the lure fresh and check often. You may have to try more than one location but you will get them.Any special tricks for getting rid of RATS?
OK, DO NOT USE RAT POISON!!!! The major problem with rat poison, is that you can not control where the little suckers die. So, if they die in your walls, you have more of a problem that live rats! Your mother is close to right. I usually recommend using steel wool and filling the holes that they are entering you home with that. Realize that a rat can fit through holes the size of a quarter or bigger. Your landlord should have used snap traps instead of glue boards. Glue boards are fairly useless against adult rats. They are too cautious to be caught on them. Good luck!
If you have rats it usually means you are somehow providing food and/or water with undisturbed access. Rats won't usually take advantage of something unless they can see that it is undisturbed for about 24 hours. Also, they need discreet access to these things: a hole in the wall that is out of sight or a tunnel from a hidden location. First, determine where they come from and why they are there. You might have a plumbing leak that you are unaware of and whatever you put your garbage in must be closed up pretty tight. Check around you home for openings in or near the walls. Check with your neighbors and see if they have the same problem. This sometimes is a community problem.

If you resort to poison, make sure pets don't have acces to it or to the dead rats afterword. Both can be sources of poison . Also, DON'T close up the openings until your are sure the rats have left the building. If they die in the home, they rot in the home, probably somewhere you won't be able to remove them fom. Keep in mind that poison is bait and you might be attracting more rats.

Make noise. Remove sustenance. Close off access.

BTW: glue traps are very inhumane and need to be checked daily. If they work. you will have to deal with a live rat. Better to use Victor snap traps.
Hiya! There is nothing humane or ';tricky'; about my anwser but it works, quick... Go get you self some Decon brand rat poison and put it in its hole, under things along wall and try to restrict pets to the areas applied. This will wipe out the whole clan faster than 4 hungry cats.

If it isn't paying rent, evict it; rats are no exception. Make sure no 'food' is around for their temtation. Rats love garbage, spilled foods and dog/cat food - - will chew holes in a paper bag to get to it.

I personally use the basic rat traps (large mouse traps). When it snaps, it kills the rodent quickly %26amp; you dispose of it then reset trap for the next.

I do not care for rats either, but I still don't want them to suffer. Poison is a painful death, rat could die in wall %26amp; deteriate there (phew), another animal eats poisoned rat, they will die, too.

Sticky strips I do not like either. They get caught in it and have to die gradually by starvation and/or dehydration.

Last option is live humane trap, then call animal control to eliminate. You would have to have several traps to catch all.
