How long can I leave my rats alone for if I go away?

If I leave them enough food and water. A couple of days should be ok but how about a couple of weeks. How long can I leave my rats alone for if I go away?
You can safely leave your rats for a weekend- add an extra water bottle to the cage, and extra food. I have brought my rats everywhere with me, and never left them for more than a few hours. (it's amazing where you can sneak a rat!)

My advice is find a way to take them along, or find a pet sitter who is willing to play with them and care for them.

Check references though- I once paid somebody to look after my cats- I came home to cat feaces all over my house, full litter boxes, and skinny cats that had to be on IV's for a week..and a dead rabbit. I was away for three weeks!!.. Make sure you hire someone responsible. Maybe work through a pet sitting agency- or have your rats boarded at a pet facility-Your best bet to ensuring their health and saftey would be to stay home with your pets. How long can I leave my rats alone for if I go away?
Two weeks? I hope you're kidding!

If you're away for a weekend get someone in each day to feed them , do a small clean and have your usual free range playtime with them.

They can't not be cleaned out, left with food longer than 24 hrs or left alone...

They are far to social and high maint pets for that.

train up a neighbour who is keen and has time to spend with them or find a friend who knows about ratties.
Absolutely NOT! Even a couple of days is wrong. You really need someone to come in once a day to check on them and refresh their food and water. If you're really stuck for help ask the RSPCA if they know of a pet-sitter who can help while you're away.
longest? long weekend ie go friday come back sunday and only if you put up plenty of water and dried food

rats do need fresh food EVERYDAY but as a once or twice a year thing just dried aint gonna kill them

any longer and your looking at welfare/cruelty issues at the least

dying/dead rats at the worse

if you want to go away for longer or more often,

then either ask someone totally trustworthy to come feed water and get them out EVERYDAY, ask someone to ratsit in either your or their home or rehome the rats if they no longer fit in with your lifestyle and get a goldfish
give someone a key
NOOOOO
depends on where you leave them.

they enjoy one of the widest ranging habitat possibles of all the beastee kingdom and find niches in niches.ive even heard of rats burrowing in worm holes,carry-ons packed w/plague and of course carrion, they travel in time to catch favorite television shows and other bad viruses.

oh,but iffn you wanna leave um someplace where youre more likely to find em upon yer return, like, say,a cage?err...umm...you will find em dead after a time.advantage-you wont need to feed them.unless you happen to have a big snake in which case youll need to feed them to it.

in other words, just dont do it.

dont you have anybody you can phone up to ask em to pop over to yer place(keys under the mat,or fake rock,or fake mat)and look after them?neighborhood kids might dig that.throw a few bux their way.

seriously,

Well, if they have food and water and you KNOW for sure they won't run out while you are gone, then maybe, but it isn't good to leave them in a dirty cage. A few weeks give them ample time to dirty their cages. I think you should have someone come take care of them, or give a friend or family member them(Kinda like you do with school pets, you board them with someone) that you trust to take care of them.
i woulds say a few days. try to get your neighbor or friend to take care of it while your gone. its not the best idea to leave your pet alone. it could starve.hope this helps!

=)
rats are easy enough to move, take them to a friends or family, you go away for 2 weeks youll come to a stiff ratty
Agree that a couple of days will be okay, but certainly not weeks.

Do you have a neighbour who can come in and feed them?
ahh joe king !! thanks for the points ya crazy man lol

whats the thumbs down for hes joe king as in joking tut !! hehe

like hes really going to leave them for a couple of weeks on there own

ok then ill take you seriously - you should never leave any animal without adequate food and water , all pets need feeding every day and im sure theres someone you can ask to feed them for you.
Not a couple of weeks. The cage would be horrible if you left it there for a couple of weeks- smelly. Have a friend watch them or come over daily/every other day to check on them, change food and water and the cage.
A couple weeks is completely unacceptable. If you need to live your rats alone, I'd say no more than a couple days, with plenty of food and water. They need fresh food and water every day, not to mention human interaction, AND a cleaning atleast once a week. If you need to go away for a couple weeks get someone to come care for them, but dont leave them alone for that long. That's inhumane.
Oh,you shouldn't worry . Rats are very intelligent and they will

feel great without you, a couple of weeks... and they will find

out how to get rid of their ';owner';.. and find their way out of

the flat in the most remarkable way. Just leave the iron cage's

door open. They will return as soon as they will need you again.
Uh, NOOOO. Find a pet store or a classroom or someone who'll take them for the time you're gone, or get a pet sitter to go to your house 1 time a day.
Noooo! Get someone to take care of them! Something could happen suddenly and they need to be cared for every single day. Maybe you should find them a new home if you cannot give them time every day.
wtf are you crazy they need fresh food every day

not even a couple days
Before you go away, put them down the toilet and flush, - they are RODENTS NOT PETS.
just lend them a maid or a nanny
don't worry, they will eat each other.
Let the cat look after them and enjoy your holiday!
