How do you get your rats to stop chewing on their cage?

I have a big Super Pet Deluxe cage with a plastic bottom. One of my rats has chewed a hole through it. My rats have TONS of chew toys and so forth to gnaw and play on, and they always get at least an hour outside of the cage (usually more). But my one rat, who is always been on the bad side, refuses to chew on any of them and only goes after the cage - hence why there's now a huge gaping hole in it. How can I get her to quit? Is there a spray I can use to deter them? How do you get your rats to stop chewing on their cage?
The bitter sprays can sometimes work, but when you spray them the mist lingers in the air for a while and can irritate the rat's eyes as well as taste bad. Spray it in the air, wait a few seconds, then open your mouth for just a moment and you'll see exactly what I mean! I personally haven't tried using bitter sprays as a deterrent so I don't know if the rats are affected by the bad taste. Even if they were, they may chew anyway, or at the very least it would wear off after a while. I'm afraid your best option is to get a cage with a different bottom, preferably one that isn't plastic. Or, instead of getting a new cage, you could construct a new bottom to fit your cage and make it out of metal. Another possibility is to line the outside of your plastic litter pan's sides and bottom with hardware cloth, that way if your rat chewed through the plastic they would have to stop at the metal grid.

Unfortunately nothing can be done to 'reprogram' the rat's behaviour in this aspect. Some rats are chewers and nothing is going to change their personality! Good luck with your rats! How do you get your rats to stop chewing on their cage?
Not sure about rats but I had a hamster who hated being in a cage and hated his wheel in the cage. two times or more he escaped and came straight to my room and walked all over my face and then found our extra hamster wheel and was happily running on it :). After that I let him out a few hours every night to run around my room. He was the most hilarious and caring hamster I have ever seen. He always walked by to check on me. It sounds crazy but it's true. After he seen I was ok he would go over and run on his wheel again. He liked looking out my window and he walked on my Rabbits backs. The rabbits loved him with all their heart. Yes it's dangerous but they loved each other. That was a wonderful experience ^_^. He passed away last year. But the memory of him will live on and has changed my thoughts about hamsters being furry and scary and teeny. lol
