How can i make my rats more comfortable in their exercise ball?

I just bought a ball for my rats to run around in. One won't go in the ball at all, and the other goes in and just sits there. Is there anything i can do to get them more comfortable in the ball? or just to move a little?How can i make my rats more comfortable in their exercise ball?
Rats and exercise balls do not mix well. They are intelligent, curious animals who rely heavily on their sense of smell. To be confined in a small plastic ball is far from their idea of fun. It hampers their navigational skills (as rats typically have pretty poor eyesight, PEWs especially!), and it's pretty much boring. If they're going to be out of their cage, they want to explore. That means sniffing, climbing! If you simply cannot let them explore right now, then change the situation so that they can. Let them free-range somewhere! A bathroom, a tabletop, your bed.. You can rat-proof your room and let them run around, or you can make/buy a pen for them. If they're very, very active, you can also consider buying a rat-safe wheel for their cage (like a Stealth Wheel or a Wodent Wheel) so that they can exercise when in the cage.





(Depending on what kind of ball you have, by the way, this can be simply dangerous.. Ratty tails can get caught in the slits and/or holes of some balls..!)





EDIT: Oh, I forgot the one case where rats and exercise balls do go well together! Exercise balls are a popular choice to be strung up in the cage as a new nesting area. ;) Just add to cage, add some nesting materials, and voila.How can i make my rats more comfortable in their exercise ball?
Rats don't really like large balls - to be honest, they aren't safe and make them really frightened. Thats probably why they won't go in, hun. I definately don't recommend them.
maybe they just dont like it try this with the one that doesnt move get its favourite food dangle it in front of it and it should move as with the one that wont go in maybe it just doesnt like it
What the other person said... you don't put rats in exercise balls. It is both cruel and dangerous. Rats are not gerbils.





What on earth prompted you to do such a thing anyways???
maybe get a new ball, if they don't like it they won't use it. also just leave it open with them and maybe they will go in all on their own
