Tell your parents pet rats don't carry diseases. None of the animals in pet shops carry diseases. Tell them pet rats are not the same as wild rats. There is also a difference between wild rabbits and pet rabbits. Your parents should be able to understand that there is a difference between wild animals and domesticated animals. I really don't understand what is cruel about owning pet rats if they are kept in your home and away from your dog. Most women can't stand the sight of rats. I think your mother is afraid the pet rats will get loose in your home and come into her bedroom while she is sleeping at night. I think she is just using your dog as an excuse not to buy pet rats for you. You will have to convince your Mom that you will take good care of the pet rats and keep them in your bedroom. The biggest problem with pet rats and hamsters is that they only live about three years. You want to get two pet rats? It would probably be best if you could get two females. They would probably get along best with each other, and they will not breed. You don't want to get a male and female. You will end up with dozens of pet rats in no time at all.How can i persuade my parents to let me buy pet rats?
rats are NOT disgusting. they are one of the best pets to have. make sure when the rat is getting used to the home hes on a wood floor cuz he will get nervous the first day and poop on the floor.

my mom would NOT let me get a rat either UNTIL i took her to the pet store and relized how good of pets they are. rats are one of the best pets you can have.

First of all, I must agree - if you have a terrier that hunts rodents, it would be cruel. Either to the rats (to get constantly frightened out of their withs by a predator), or to the dog (to temp it with unreachable prey).
Secondarily, you should present proof that rats are, in fact, clean animals (yes they are! A couple of friends of mine used to keep pet rats). Scientific texts should be okay, since they're much more credible than fan-written ones.
Third, as for disgust - sorry, the only way to overcome this is to face the object of one's disgust. Rats aren't disgusting IMHO (I mean, pet rats, that are clean, eat clean, fresh food, do not spread diseases, and - important! - are ecountered in small numbers). However, forcing your parents to face them by bringing rats home is a definitely bad idea.
Maybe you should visit a pet shop with them?
Note that many people are disgusted by rat's (and mice) naked tails. Rodents with no tails (hamsters) or with furry tails (squirrels, but also a few kinds of ';kangaroo mouses'; - I don't know their proper English name, but they are available from pet shops - or other furry-tailed species) usually get much more positive reaction.
i got one behing there back b4.. But eventually they knew when it went to the living room and scared the heck out of em...Just get one white not Black..
keep saving till you get your own place------I agree with you about not stressing your parents.
well when you have enough money to buy them tell them that it's your money not theirs so since it is yours you can buy what ever you want! and if they let you they will actullay see how good they really are. or if that doesn't happen try getting hamsters!
