Should I get one that is designed for larger rodents like ferrets, rabbits, and guinea pigs?
Also, how important is it for rats to have a wheel in their cage?
Thanks! How big of a cage should I have for 3 pet rats?
A ferret cage is good sized for rats. But most cages that are big enough for rats have bar spacing too big and the rats can squeeze out so you'll have to buy hardware cloth at you local hardware store. I recommend this size cage for people who don't want a huge cage but a good one. I used this one as my first cage until I got too many rats to fit. This cage can house 4 rats.

it's only $57 dollars shipping included.
Wheels aren't really important at all. Most rats don't even use them. They like things they can run in and out of and hide more. They also like hammocks that you can either buy or make. How big of a cage should I have for 3 pet rats?
a very good website that sells rat cages is www.martinscages.com. they sell very good cages but u have to put it together. you should not get a cage meant for guinea pigs or rabbits because they make the bars spaced out so rats could get out very easily. it isnt that important to have a wheel in the cage if u take ur rats out every day u dont really need one then but if u arent planning on doing that then u should put one in. hope this helps.
depends, how big are the cats that are going in the cage with the rats, u gotta consider that too ,
depends on how big they r, if they are huge, than I would say, 5x4, or 4x3. If they are mouse size, then 2x2ish.
Ditto to everything Rozlyn said =)
i think Max S is right, and I think theyy need a wheel for exercise
