What is the most humane way to kill rats inside the house?

Poison is no good as they I will have a rotting body in the house.

Used a spring trap and it got free and I found it in a pool of blood close by. Must have died in pain. I want a quick instant painless death. What is the most humane way to kill rats inside the house?
Those Victor traps that look like oversized mouse traps are worthless on all but the smallest rats. I needed to catch one in my basement, and used a muskrat trap. It's a square wire trap and has a v-shaped wire trigger that hangs down. It's for bait, but you really don't have to bait it. Just put the trap so the rat can run through it, against the wall, and lean something over it. That seems to do the trick. They run along the walls, will run behind whatever you have leaning there and through the trap. Depending on the size of the rats, you might want to wire the trap to something like a cinderblock so they can't drag it away. Once the rats get big enough, there is no humane, it's you or them. The door from my kitchen to the basement is chewed along the bottom edge and that's when I decided to play hardball. You could also hang shark hooks baited with bologna by wires, but I'm told they really scream when they get hooked. The one I got in the muskrat trap was big enough that I had to finish it with a .22 airgun. Forget quick, instant, painless. You want to kill rats or you don't. You could hit it with a hammer. What is the most humane way to kill rats inside the house?
If you have rats in your house I would call a professional out to deal with it it I were you
I hear that lethal injection is a good way. or guillotine . But I'd steer clear of an electric chair.
Rats are vermin and if they're in your house, they need to die. Bollocks to being humane, what about your health?
Hi,I bought a humane cage trapped one then took it over to the beck. The poor thing was terrified %26amp; so was I.Like you I have used poison they die in agony.I am always getting them in the loft we have a field out the back.Good Luck in what you decide to use.
The most humane way is not to kill them, but trap and release them instead.
open the switch and light covers in the walls that arent on the outside of the house and pour packets of rat and mouse killer in the walls they will eat the wire insulation off and maybe cause a fire one day because they must wear down the teeth ro-dentis means they must chew constantly like a rabbitus ro-dentus see id kill them any way i could
keep everyting in house and surroudings free from food, left overs and so on. If there is no foot, no mice and so on, rats won't appear. The most humane way seems to me is prevention.
I would think rat poison is way more humane than a rat trap
buy a cat! lol plz make it best
o.k. first of all let me say i p!ss拢d myself laughing at ur q, secondly, i dont think there is a humane way of killing anything!!!
You don't necessary have to kill them. Humane Traps can be purchased to allow the rats to be released.

If its an infestation, then against my principles this should be investigated by Environmental Health Dept.

If you are able to assess the numbers, before they start to breed, ensure that food is not available. Waste food in the house and outside will promote long term accomodation for the rats. If you can assess there point of entry/exit. Block these route.
