What is an effective method to get rid of rats and mice?

How do you go about exterminating rodents from your attic? Do you suggest large or small-sized mousetraps, and where should I place them. Also, we've tried using rat poison to no avail. But let's say we manage to kill some of them off with the mousetraps, will that deter other rats from coming? I would like a way to get rid of the rats for good. What is an effective method to get rid of rats and mice?
If you will visit your Hardware store, or Meijers, Wall mart etc. there you will find an electronic rodent deterrent. that you plug into an electrical outlet and it will keep the rodents from entering. I have used one for more than two years, nothing comes into the garage any more. They are also safe for pets and children. Their life span varies somewhat from 2-4 years. They are also sold through mail catalogs. Best of luckWhat is an effective method to get rid of rats and mice?
KILL
put mouse traps along wall or where you see thier poop, big rats will trip a trap, big or small, so poisen is the way to go for them
call an exterminator
Unfortunately when you kill rats with a rat trap it doesn't keep them from coming around, it only keeps them from approaching rat traps. They learn to avoid them.

Try putting the rat bait where ever you see evidence of rat activity- holes chewed in fabrics or insulation, droppings, etc. Leave it there until it's gone and then replace it.

Be sure not to put it where pets can get to it. They will eat it, too.

Also make sure to close up any holes in your siding, walls, brickwork, etc. It's not easy to find them all but just make sure to seal them whenever you see them.
I live in the country and bought some of those electronic plug-in pest controllers. They emit some type of sound freguency

that the rodents cannot tolerate. They really work. You have to have so many per square feet in order to keep all of them out.
get a cat or borrow one
rodents usually are were they can find food you Ned to clean and remove all foods like bird seeds dog food or papers-- clean with Clorox to get rid of the rodents urine and keep all foods cobber in aluminum containers that will work
Um]... how bout call an extermnater?!
most animals will shy away from loud noises. Placing a radio playing obnoxious music often drives animals out. They are probobly mating and nesting in your attic. If you soak a rag in ammonia and place it in a tupperware container the smell also will drive them out. Moth balls work also.

Killing of some will not deter other rats. As long is it is a warm sheltered place they will keep coming in unless you find and seal off the entry point.
get your friendly neighbourhood ferret man to come round
Water. They need water! In fact you can use a black light to follow along their trails - they piss as the waddle along looking for snacks and water. Get rid of their water source (and food source). If you use poison they go nuts and die in your walls looking for water. Place traps along trails, but remember where you put them and check them regularly. They may chew through your electrical wiring, electrocute themselves and solve the rodent problem for you. Search for the places they are coming in, pack in steelwool and seal the hole, the steelwool discourages chewing and wrecks their nasty dirty teeth.
I have a good one for Rats. I lived where Wolf rats where invaded our community. We couldn't put out poison because of neighborhood pets. Take a 5 gallon bucket or something to suit the size of rat, fill it 1/4 full of water. They will try to get a drink of water from it but it is too low for them to reach and they fall in. The sides of the bucket is too slick so they can't climb back out so they drown. We used to catch 3-4 big ones a day!
the most effective way to get rid of rodents iis clorox bleach. sprayed in an area keeps them away . bleerech will not harm the soil in fact some experts say it clenses the soil as it washes deeper into the ground . like any chemicals keep away the kids. good for ant problems as well as bees and there nest.
they come from outside so don't forget check your house for holes put some traps outside and inside.be careful with poisons it could kill things you don't intend on killing, Cage traps are your best solution. inside and out.remember to vary your bait , they are smart little critters. They will remember that peanut butter means danger.poisons aren't a great idea ,it doesn't kill them imedieatly, one day you'll get a wiff of it trap behind a wall, nasty.Good Luck
