Are rats better housed in a light place or dark one?

Is it best for rats to be housed in a dark area or a light one. I wasn't sure which would be more comfortable to the rat.Are rats better housed in a light place or dark one?
Neither darkness or light 24/7 would be good for anyone. Rats like the same thing we do; light during the day, but darkness at night. They won't be happy if they are kept in darkness all of the time, or if they can't sleep because it is bright 24/7Are rats better housed in a light place or dark one?
A suitable enviroment would be one where they where in light and dark for equal amounts during the day. This means basically that you should but them in a light and airy space so that in the day they are in light and at night they are in the dark, like many animals should be.

Give them hidey holes so that they can go to dark areas when they want to.
medium light is good for rats but they are almost blind so i really dont think it makes much of a difference to them whether they are in alot of light or not but you dont want them in alot of sun light they will get to hot. i have six rats and i keep them in a place that well lit during the day but at night i make sure they have total darkness just to make sure the rest good...
They need a light dark cycle so some light however their eyes are exteamly sensive especially pink eyed rats and bright light can cause them discomfort and blind them. In preference tests rats always choose to be in the darkest places.
Everything does better in light - but give him a house to hide in...
medium they cant be in direct sunlight but would u want them in a dark corner
